Martin Luther King Day
It is amazing what children will glean from a conversation if they are not told exactly what every word means. We haven't discussed Martin Luther King Day at home, so I can only suppose that it has been discussed at school. And from a conversation I overheard between Julianne and William the other night, I must assume that Julianne's teacher, didn't explain that Martin Luther King's name is "Martin," "Luther," and "King."
This is the conversation;
"We don't have school on Monday William." said Julianne
"Why don't we have school on Monday Jan?" asked William
"Because it's the holiday for the King of the Brown People." said Julianne.
How exactly is a mother supposed to correct that?
